Operating Systems
There are different computer systems and platforms used. I will be looking into operating systems in PC/Macintosh devices. Operating systems acts as an interpreter to your software. The OS has to know the address block to find out how to do a certain instruction. It has set programs and functions installed so it can run programs on its device. Each device needs its own OS and can only run on that specific OS.
PC's and Macintosh have there own operating systems. Most PC's run on Windows operating system. Its a well known operating system it installed on nearly every laptop or computer. Although this is a well known operating system it is not the only one there is Mac OS. The main difference between the Mac OS and the Windows desktop PC is that the Mac OS uses less space as its all built into the Mac.

Linux is another different type of operating system its for more advance computers. You will need to know your stuff to use these as opposed to Mac's and Windows that is easily used. Linux unlike the other I mentioned gives you the option to code it yourself you can code your setup. This is advantageous as you can get the information everywhere. With Linux you need to know what your doing although it is available to everyone it can be hard to use.
For handheld devices there are more options with what software to use. These are usually used in PDAs.
With handhelds you have three choices in software:
Windows CE
Windows CE is used on handhelds as it limited in the amount of space just one megabyte. It not good for big devices but its great for handhelds. When using Windows CE you have the ability to do speech recognition. meaning by using your voice you can find someone in your contacts without the click of a button or touch of the screen Windows CE works by using a real time system.
EPOC
EPOC is now discontinued. Its used on PDA's. Its a single user multi-operating system. Its discontinued as there are better systems that do things quick but also in better way.
PalmOS
PalmOS is a computer operating system that is used on handheld devices such as PDA's With this device you can only use one application at one time. It can't use more than one application at once. Palm is touchscreen interface.
Another operating system is SymbianOS. This operating system is used by Sony Erricson and Nokia. It is also used in other Japanese manufactures.
Then there is BREW.
BREW uses a binary runtime environment for wireless. This means the platform is capable of running programs and downloading programs at the same time. Like when your texting someone and then sharing pictures or videos. Brew is used on most handheld devices such as mobile phones
Morphun
Morphun is software that is used for most mobile phones it used to create games. The games are created and developed using c/C+ programming languages by using open source SKD. Its translated by a compiler into a SIP (system independent application). You get no freeware in Mophun apps because each application needs to be certified as compatible.
